Quotes

The themes that I engage with are mental health, emotional well-being combined with personal and community experiences of home, belonging and identity.

Srija Shrestha

I am a Nepali artist and illustrator based in Inverness. I came to the UK in 2021 to pursue an MA in Illustration and graduated from Teesside University in 2022. Leaving home for the very first time and navigating life in an entirely different culture and environment has been a major experience in shaping my practice. The themes that I engage with are mental health, emotional well-being combined with personal and community experiences of home, belonging and identity. I also explore these themes through the fusion of Nepali and English language and culture while also connecting them with the stories of finding a home away from home. I enjoy presenting my work through the medium of zines, photography, comics, riso prints, cyanotype prints and sometimes illustrated short videos.

I would like to further explore stories and experiences of diversity and how people navigate their identities in a global environment. I am also fond of learning various similarities among languages, especially among Asian communities. I am also keen on learning about various cultural, traditional and societal inspirations behind the works of artists from artists in diversity because that makes me feel seen and inspires me to create my own work.
